North West WorldSkills Newsletter

Here is the introduction to the North West WorldSkills Newsletter from Graham Wilkinson, North West Regional WorldSkills Champion.

A key highlight of course, is former apprentice from Warrington Collegiate College who won the Gold Medal at the WorldSkills Finals in July in Leipzig. Well done to Ashley Terron! Having spent 3 days myself in Leipzig, I felt I was in heaven. The machinery, and specialist equipment that had been provided for the WorldSkills finals was truly amazing.
The scale of the event is considerable, but I have to say what we do in the UK at the National Skills Show is very comparable, albeit on a smaller scale. Registrations for this year’s Skills Show are doing really well. Do book early on line for tickets for both learners and your staff, this way you will avoid queues at the event. The Skills Show is an inspiration for learners and is well worth a visit – do consider taking some careers teachers from your feeder schools or careers service.
Once again the North West has many entries going through to the finals, which will be hosted at the Skills Show. Those qualifying will join the World Skills Team UK and will compete in the finals in Sao Paolo in Brazil in 2015.
WorldSkills is a life changing experience for young people in particular. Hope to see as many North West Colleges and Providers visiting the show as possible
